courants.

Abstract :
The Algerian coast is subjected to different hydrodynamic forces, mainly citing swell, which is the
source of several types of currents, which act near the coast, making hydrodynamic measurements
indispensable for any coastal construction for protection or development of Socio-economic activities.
The objective of this study was first to show the currents in the Bois Sacré beach, that extends over a
coastline of about 1 km with a very complex underwater and coastal morphology. Second, to see the
interest of the site protection works in terms of dissipation of the incident energy of the swell, and the
changes in the behavior of the currents induced by these swells, based on archived data and field data
current.
In order to achieve this objective, we first concentrated on the modeling of coastal currents by a
hydrodynamic model (SWAN) after having filtering the winds capable to generate swells higher than 0.5m
off shore; Taking into consideration their speeds, their persistence and their directions. Then a spatialtemporal analysis was carried out while exploiting 32 wave conditions to determine the coastal drift current
and the sedimentary transit. Another model called GSTA has been useful for this modeling by allowing the
simulation of the sedimentary dynamics in the study area. Finally, in order to confirm the result of the
numerical modeling and to appreciate the real direction of the drift currents. Multi-date ASTER satellite
images have been used, which offer a synoptic and instantaneous view of the turbid plumes resulting from
the suspension of the particles brought by MAXOUM’s river, or by agitation of the bottom of the beach.
The combination of numerical models and satellite imagery is a scientific approach that has succeeded
in obtaining reliable and accurate results in the study of currents
