In reply to Mr. Meron, one of our important conclusions is that wind has at least the same
important influence on ammonia removal from effluent with a high pH as temperature. The experiments were carried out both during the summer and winter. The wind is of great importance because
during the winter when the temperature is low, the wind velocity is high, so that the ammonia removal
rate is similar to that during the summer, when the temperature is high but the wind velocity low.
In reply to Mr. Shemesh, the influence of MgO on ammonia release was not examined, but as has
been mentioned above, the action of magnesium as an effluent flocculant for the removal of algae
from stabilization ponds has been investigated. No drop in ammonia concentration during lime treatment was found, despite the effluents containing high concentrations of magnesium ions.
