The high sewage leadings per unit of surface area in the accelerated photosynthetic pond creates
conditions in which nutrients are in relative abundance. Incident irradiance becomes therefore the
principle limiting factor for design purposes. It is true that under conditions of nitrogen starvation,
some correction should be made before using this approach, (see also Reference 18).

In view of the accumulation of heavy metal, like lead, in algae does heavy metal enrichment occur
in the algal product which the authors propose as animal feed?
Reply
The system was used in communities in which heavy metal concentration is negligible. The use of
the algal biomass for animal feed is now being studied. The study will include the determination of
heavy metals concentrations in the product.
