Can lime or aluminium sulphate treatment reduce the chlorine demand so that breakpoint chlorination may be obtained more economically?
Answer:
Definitely both processes will reduce the chlorine demand of the water by the flocculation and
removal of solids and nitrogenous matter. In addition, in lime treatment ammonium compounds are
converted to gaseous ammonia which can then be volatilised.
