SUMMARY
This survey shows that there exist at least three biocoenosis in the Cap
Matifou area, each of them being related to the texture of the sed1ment.
Their determination was derived from a” trellis-diagramm” grouping the
stations which show strong faunistic afnities between them.
The three communities so determined are as follows :
—
The community characterised by Amphium c/3z'ajez' connected to
the «Detritique Envasé» biocoenosis ( *) ; it widens toward the middle of the
bay, and its position is an infra—coastal one in the area under consrderatron.
It develops in muddy and slightly sandy bottoms near the rocky coast. This
sediment probably turns into pure silt corresponding either to coastal tertrgenous muds or to deep silts.
—
The community characterised byEum'cella gramimze connected
to
the Coralligenous biocoenosis. It is the «gorgon in high stratum» facres
of
that biocenosis. The principal area seems to be that of Eumcella
therefore a shelf facies which extends off Cap Mat1fou. The Cape 1tself
offers another tvpe of the same facies, that of Ezmicella cr:z:o?mz indica—
tinÿ_Vertica@l walls.
The mixed community, connected to those of Posidoma Herbarz'um and photophilous Algae. It is so complex that lt would require a
more detailed characterization.
At last, let’s. mention a transitive area between the most coastal community (HP/AP) and the two others.
(“’) Referred to PERES - PICARD (1964).
