For the algal bodies cultured over one week, 47 wt% oil was obtained, with
neutral lipid content of 32.9%, which accounted for 80% of oil stores.
Fatty acid composition has been known to vary greatly with culturing conditions. In the case of DA0580, proportions of various fatty acids changed with
alterations in culturing conditions (such as temperature), with content of 0.8% C 16 –
C 26 fatty acid hydrocarbons and 0.3% squalene. The strain showed few of the
long-chain unsaturated fatty acids responsible for degradation during repurposing
for biodiesel fuel, and because palmitoleic methyl esters have a low melting point of
0.5 °C, solidification does not occur at low temperatures. DA0580 oils thus have
