While research in areas involving microbes and higher plants has been developing by the day, however, research into seaweeds has fallen markedly behind.
One approach under consideration for seaweed breeding with genetic technology
involves isolating protoplasts from aseptically cultured seaweed tissue and using a
suitable vector for transformation. This, however, will require swift development of
