treatment plant (Drezet at Férel, Fig. 6.4) was inaugurated in 1972, with a production capacity of 30,000 m
3 of drinking water per day, corresponding to an
instantaneous pumping rate in the reservoir of 1600 m
3 /h. Today, its maximum
production capacity has been increased to 90,000 m
3 per day, corresponding to an
instantaneous pumping rate in the reservoir of 4800 m
3 /h. The water plant supplies
15–20 Mm
3 of freshwater annually. Up to 1 million inhabitants are supplied with
drinking water by the Arzal reservoir during the summer season.
