junction that collects a deposited charge. At the very early phase of this event (lasting
less than 0.1 picoseconds), a cylindrical track of an electron-hole pair with a
sub-micrometer radius is generated along the particle trajectory. If this pair traverses
the depleted region of the junction, the carriers are rapidly collected by the local
electric field within a few tens of picoseconds. This drift collection is followed by the
diffusion-dominants collection phase until the excess carriers have been recombined
or diffused out (at hundreds to thousands of picoseconds) [8]. An important feature
of this phenomena is the distortion of the local electric field into a funnel shape (i.e.,
the so-called funneling or field-funneling effect) [9]. It is known that this funneling
enhances the drift collection of the carriers [10].
