1.7 Results and Conclusions

The studies on the use of sodium vapors as resonance detecting media (the first
work was published by the author in 1974 [30]) are the priority in the USSR and in
foreign countries (see A. Yariv, IEEE, J. Quantum Electr. QE-15,524,1978 [33]) and,
as later studies of other authors showed (Appl. Phys. Lett. 32, 12, 813, 1978, JOSA.
68, N. 5, 685, 1978), these media with narrow resonance were the most effective
under the wave surface processing and reversal of the wave fronts.
