It is an exciting moment that the circumlunar return and reentry spacecraft, Chang’E5T1, was launched and return safely just then. Now the book “Technology of Lunar
Soft Lander” edited by YU Dengun et al. will be published. Congratulation!
The target of China’s Lunar Exploration Program (CLEP) was Orbiting, Landing,
and Return by three steps. With mission success of Chang’E-1, Chang’E-2, and
Chang’E-3, the scheduled target of Orbiting and Landing had been implemented.
The book “Technology of Lunar Soft Lander” was edited on the basis of summary of
Chang’E-3 lunar lander development by Chinese aerospace scientists and engineers.
It is not only the summary of engineering practice experience, but also important
result of CLEP development, as well as cultural and spiritual wealth of Chinese
aerospace undertaking.
Chairman Mao Zedong once said that human beings should constantly summarize experience, invent, discover, and advance. Exploring mystery of the universe and
utilizing lunar resource will be long-term enterprise of human being. The publication
of this book will have two effects. One is to summarize past technical practice systematically, refine experience or theory, so as to guide future development of lunar lander
and even provide useful experience or theory for future exploration of the Moon and
other celestial bodies. The other one is to advocate that Chinese aerospace scientists
and engineers shall summarize experience in time and make it a fashion and habit
for scientists and engineers to write what they have done.
Now Chinese aerospace enterprise is prompting to build a space power. There shall
be not only excellent and reliable spacecraft, but also strong support of technology,
science, and culture. It is undoubted that the publication of aerospace technology
is an important part of our aerospace enterprise. The aerospace enterprise shall be
inherited by generations and the aerospace technical books shall also be written by
generations of scientists and engineers. We shall take the publication of “Technology
of Lunar Soft Lander” as an opportunity to prompt the series publication of CLEP
which covers all technology fields of CLEP development. I hope that the publication
of this book will lead publication of related technology books of all technology fields
involved in CLEP development.
