(such as strength of assembler, layout of work units, etc.), and a semi-empirical time
model was established [9]. Antoishek et al. also developed a new semi-immersive
virtual assembly system based on the Virtual Workbench and data glove technology
of CTC Corporation with the WTK development tool library on SGI workstations,
which enabled two operators to virtually assemble a satellite [10].
Up to date, the digital virtual assembly technology in aerospace field was developed rapidly and applied widely. [11] The digital technology was applied in solar
panel assembly in NASA to assist in assembly and improved assembly accuracy, as
shown in Fig. 12.4. In China, digital system integration assembly technology had
been in great progress, especially in virtual assembly simulation and verification technology including AIT full flow simulation in facility-level and workshop-level, and
simulation of system integration and assembly with digital product prototype based
on processing approach planning, human-computer interactive simulation based on
virtual reality, virtual wiring simulation of flexible cable and ergonomics analysis, as
shown in Fig. 12.5. In the system integration and assembly of the Chang’E-3 lunar
lander, simulation of assembly process with full digital prototype was conducted and
demonstrated.
12.3 Characteristics of System Integration and Assembly
The Chang’E-3 the lunar lander was a spacecraft with complex configuration, moving
parts and new developed instruments [12]. At the same time, the schedule was tight
for parallel development of the lunar lander and the lunar rover, which meant new that
there were challenges and difficulties in system integration and assembly of the lunar
lander. In this chapter, the requirements and characteristics of system integration and
