Preface II
On December, 14, 2013, the Chinese Chang’E-3 lunar lander was landed on lunar
surface successfully. Since the last lunar soft-landing in 1976, there was no probe
made by human beings to be landed on the Moon. The success of Chang’E-3 lunar
lander made China the 3rd country who had capability to implement lunar softlanding. As major participants of the Chang’E-3 project, we began to write the
book “Technology for Lunar Soft Lander” in Chinese in 2014, which could help to
summarize the technology and experience of the project development. In 2016, the
book was published by China National Defense Industry Press.
In 2017, the famous international publisher Springer paid attention to the book.
They suggested to publish the English version. Then we began to translate the book
into English. Doctor PENG Jing of China Academy of Space Technology proofread
the book. And then, Prof. WU Bo of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and
Prof. HUANG Hai of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics reviewed
the English version, especially for correctness and accuracy of the specific terms.
According to their suggestions, we revised the book. The editors of the Springer
made a lot of revise for the English version at the same time. We sincerely appreciate
their work and devotion to the publication of the English version of the book.
The publication of “Technology for Lunar Soft Lander” in English will help more
scientists and engineers in other countries to know lunar exploration technology in
China, and provide useful reference for future lunar exploration.
Due to the limitation of the author’s level, we sincerely ask the readers to criticize
and correct the inevitable shortcomings of the book.
