(6) Lunar rover on top and deployed in Z direction. The lunar rover was installed on
the top of lunar lander to provide good accessibility. The deployment mechanism of lunar rover was installed in +Z to avoid interference with other

3.6.2 System Configuration
1. Configuration design
The configuration of Chang’E-3 lunar lander is a box type as shown in Fig. 3.24.
2. Configuration in launch fairing
When the Chang’E-3 lunar lander was in launch vehicle fairing, the landing cushion
mechanism and solar panels were folded as shown in Fig. 3.25.
3. Flight configuration
The two solar panels in lateral were unfolded and landing cushion mechanism was
deployed, while the Chang’E-3 lunar lander was oriented toward Sun as shown in
Fig. 3.26.
