Anisotropy
The property of a material which allows it to change or assume different properties in different directions as opposed to isotropy (uniformity in all orientations).
The Askaryan Effect
It is a phenomenon whereby a particle traveling faster than the phase velocity of
light in a dense dielectric (such as salt, ice or the lunar regolith) produces a shower
of secondary charged particles which contain a charge anisotropy and thus emits
