above a specific area, thereby improving persistence and resilience in relation to
current naval, airborne, ground and space solutions. A flight demonstration is
planned for the end of 2023.
5.7 ZERO 2 INFINITY
Zero 2 Infinity (often Zero2Infinity) is a private Spanish company established in
2009 in Barberà del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain by aerospace engineer Jose Mariano
López-Urdiales, who is its CEO. It is developing high altitude balloons to provide
access to near space and low Earth orbit using a balloon-borne pod and a balloonborne launcher. It has been launching small payloads to high altitudes on behalf of
scientific institutions and commercial firms for testing elements above most of the
atmosphere. As an advantage over conventional systems, the launch system has a
significantly lower impact on the environment. The pod, named Bloon could also
be used for tourism.
The company currently has three lines of business:
• Bloostar: A balloon-borne launcher to put payloads such as small, micro
and nanosatellites into orbit.
• Bloon: A balloon-borne zero emission craft for launching crewed vehicles
to near space for scientific research, educational, and also potential space
tourism purposes.
• Elevate: A service provided to fly payloads to near space for scientific
research, communications, satellite testing, meteorology and marketing
purposes.
