xxxiii
I wonder whether ties between people can be maintained in the future. If serious
collaborative work can foster ties among participants, the collaborative work
involved in creating a platinum society should be able to assume that binding role.
Participation in collaborative work has been mostly compulsory in rice farming
and at companies, and those who opposed solidarity have traditionally been thrown
out of the pack. In other words, that was a participatory society with no freedom. On
the contrary, a platinum society is a society in which all can freely participate.
For example, I wonder whether people will be commuting to work from Monday
through Friday in 2030. That is most likely improbable. I think that on average,
there will be a 3-day weekend, and people will be allowed to choose between commuting to work and working from home. If that is the case, raising children while
continuing to work will become increasingly convenient, and likely even the concept of childcare leave disappears (Fig. 25). Companies that have adopted such flexible working systems have already started to appear.
