Komiyama We often hear that progress in artificial intelligence and information
technologies means the loss of jobs. How do you see it?
Sakane SMARTCONSTRUCTION is the perfect example for that as well. As I
mentioned, it means fewer surveyors are required than in the past. However, after
the 3-D images are shot, much better data will be obtained if they are read by people
with surveying experience. So, losing a job shouldn’t mean there is no further work.
And there’s a good chance that the change of work will create fresh added value.
Komiyama That is clearly the best scenario. I wonder if it will really happen.
Sakane It will, if you ask me. Japan has a problem of companies with nonproductive employment, so there is no true workforce shortage, right? And change
is the only way, right?
Japanese Factories Are Competitive
Komiyama What did you have to say about regional revitalization?
Sakane Our company name comes from the town of Komatsu in Ishikawa
Prefecture. We are one of just a few big companies named for the place of origin.
Komiyama That is true.
