Abstract In order to carry out the application of acoustic emission technology in
the structural inspection of crawler crane truss beam, this paper studies the AE
attenuation characteristics and AE location method in the crawler crane truss beam.
The destructive test process of the truss beam was monitored by using AE instruments. And the AE characteristics during the loading process of the truss beam were
analyzed. The results show that the acoustic emission sources in chord and web rod
can be accurately located by cylindrical location method. In the process of destructive
test, the AE sources can be located, and the amplitude distribution of AE location
events is between 40 and 64 dB. The AE signal of crack propagation is a burst signal,
and its frequency mainly distributes in the range of 100–450 kHz, and the peak
frequency is 170 and 350 kHz. In the truss beam of crawler crane, the weakest parts
are web rods. The results show that AE technology can be used to detect the defects
and early deformation in the truss beam of crawler crane.
44.1 Introduction
In manufacturing process of modern industry, the cranes are the indispensable equipments and used extensively in hoisting, transporting, loading, installation, carriage
of persons and so on. There are more than 2440 thousands of cranes in China at the
end of 2019. The security and reliability of the crane are significant for the society.
The metal structure supports the whole self-weight of the crane and the outside load,
forming the working system and movement space to accomplish all of the functions
of the machine. So, the state of the crane’s metal structure affects the security and
reliability of the whole machine directly.
