bioanalysis and bioimaging require the development of an easy functionalization
protocol for biomolecular AFM probes and the retention of high molecular recognition activity of bound biomolecules. Besides this, novel biomolecules should be
exploited for the functionalization of AFM probes for increasing our knowledge
about other material properties. For example, SMFS’s screening of material-specific
peptides would help the synthesis of novel functional nanomaterials. For the labelfree biosensing, our aim should be focused towards: (1) Increasing the sensitivity
and detection limit for different sensor architectures (2) Explore the possibility of
achieving drug detection by investigating the cell surface—biomolecules interaction (3) Identifying analytes with greater sensitivity and precision by integrating
AFM-SMFS with fluorescent/confocal microscopy, and (4) Achieving quantitative
detection of analytes.
