increased from about 60 kph (37 mph) to over 100 kph (62 mph). A second possible reason for the increasing number of accidents was the increase in the elephant
population of this region; the population more than doubled or even tripled here
when 150 elephants were reported in 1980 from this region (Roy 2010).
