2 Archaeological Sites in Dakhla Oasis
Dakhla Oasis is one of the most attractive cultural landscape. The Oasis is characterized by two main components as follows: (a) natural heritage component, and (b)
cultural heritage component.
The Playa deposits (Pluvial lakes) existed in the Western Desert during the
Holocene, approximately 6000 years ago. These lakes controlling factor in the
Neolithic occupation cores indicate a recent climatic episode more arid than
fluctuations occurred in the recent past (Haynes et al. 1979).
Mut is the capital of Dakhla Oasis (Fig. 1). This name derived from the death
of the wife of the God Amun which was an ancient city during the Pharaonic times
renown for the quality of their wine (Dakhleh Oasis Project et al. 2019).
The most important archaeological sites are as follows.
