11.5 Results
From the data collected in the form of questionnaires responses secured from a total
of 24 (n = 24) respondents, there were five key themes that emerged. The themes were
related to the key questions asked to respondents with regard to the community-based
water conservation and water management strategies and practices adopted by the
City of Cape Town and the rest of the Western Cape Province with a view to reduce
and mitigate the drought risks and effects as well as to push further the imminence
of Day Zero in the province given the recurrence of droughts in Western Cape.
The themes revolved around the efficacy of the drought-instigated communitybased water management strategies in Western Cape; challenges in implementing
community-based water management strategies, and stakeholder perceptions on
the effectiveness of community-based water management strategies, and possible
suggestions and recommendations for sustainable water management and future
