tools in social-mediated disaster and risk communication. Particularly, this chapter
posits that topic modeling can help identify chaotic systems that are hard to be
examined because of the limited sample and reach of traditional methods exploring
the linear relationship and group differences (Murphy 1996). From a practical standpoint, this chapter suggests the necessity of utilizing social media in future emergency
management during disasters. Effective social media usages will assist emergency
management institutions to monitor disaster and risk information dissemination on
social media, understand the public’s concerns, provide accurate information, build
interactive communication with affected communities, and offer immediate relief
responses.
