– Deformation depth
meets the requirement (<20 mm) of stab resistance test. There was no deformation
depth, when the body protector having this material tested for Impact resistance test.
It means this sample also qualified the requirement (<20 mm) of Impact resistance
test. On the other hand, in the case of B2 and B3 materials, there was no penetration
and deformation was found in stab resistance and impact resistance tests, respectively.
Hence, these samples also qualified the requirements of stab and impact resistance
tests.
4 Conclusions
There is a need to redesign body protector so the wearer can comfortably sit or move
to tackle the unruly crowds during riots. The polymeric sheet/rubber insert used in
the body protector to resist any trauma during riot should be breathable. The fatigue
of the wearer can be reduced by reducing weight of the overall body protector. In the
present body protector, rubber/soft plastic inserts are being used to make protective
parts of neck, armpit and lower abdomen areas. These rubber/soft plastic inserts are
not resistant against stabbing (puncture) attack by knife, screwdriver or spikes. There
is a need to use better material in these parts so the wearer can be protected. Besides,
there is a need to design body protector for female troopers also.
The elastic tape and hook & loop fasteners are very important accessories to
hold the body protector around the body. It is required to improve quality of these
accessories.
Out of 25 numbers of body protectors procured from various sources, only 02 body
protectors qualified the stab resistance test and 12 body protectors passed impact
resistance test. Three materials (coded as A, B and C) were developed under this
study. These materials have qualified the requirements of stab and impact tests.

permitting to carry out the survey amongst their soldiers.
