2 Experimentation
2.1 Plug Type Swirl Injector
The effect of swirl injector’s geometrical parameters on spray characteristics is very
important. Schematic of plug type swirl injector is given in Fig. 1. It consists of an
injector plate and a reservoir chamber. The reservoir chamber is cup-shaped and all
relevant dimensions are shown. It is attached with an injector flange of 120 mm PCD.
Three injector plate configurations are fabricated. Tangential port of diameter 2 mm
and liquid sheet thickness of 2 mm are maintained constant for all injectors. The
details of three injector plate dimensional details are given in Table 1.
2.2 Swirl Injector Cold Flow Test Facility
The swirl injector test facility is shown in Fig. 2. It consists of a water reservoir tank,
a piston pump (Inter Pump Model No FE 5108), and a swirl injector. A pressure
regulator and rotameter are fitted to control the flow at pump outlet and to measure
