Ge(1 1 1) crystals can take over, while above the P K-edge (2145 eV), Si(1 1 1) is
preferred.
There is a long history of plane grating monochromator (PGM) designs (sometimes known as the SX-700) [149], for soft X-ray beamlines [150–152]. For example, the ADDRESS beamline at the SLS uses a collimated PGM design that is easy to
compare with the previous hard X-ray beamlines [146]. The beam from the
75-period undulator source is collimated vertically (and focused horizontally) by a
toroidal mirror (Fig. 4.28). A plane grating chosen from a set with different groove
