Abstract The δ-lactone moiety is a common structural framework found in many
natural products that exhibit interesting biological properties. This review details a
collection of various selected methods developed for the synthesis of saturated
δ-lactones. Synthesis of unsaturated δ-lactones and manipulation thereof to saturated δ-lactones are not covered in this review.
