Effect of Sliding Distance on Wear Loss and Coefficient
of Friction (COF)
Sliding distances have a significant influence on both the wear loss and coefficient
of friction of the materials. Figure 4a depicts the wear loss for the magnesium alloy
(RZ5) and magnesium alloy composite [RZ5/10 wt.% TiB 2 ] for an applied load of
10 N. Wear loss was found to be 306.87, 459.17 and 568. 50 mg for the chosen
magnesium alloy (RZ5) and 159.23, 313.07 and 364.37 mg for the magnesium alloy
composite [RZ5/10 wt.% TiB 2 ] for a sliding distance of 1000 m, 2000 m and 3000 m,
