water was prepared. 15 μL of this solution is then drop casted over the cylindrical
vitreous carbon electrode (diameter = 3 mm, area = 0.07 cm
2 ) and left for drying.
For the CV and CA tests, a three-electrode set-up was employed with GO drop casted
vitreous carbon electrode as the working electrode, Ag/AgCl (1 M KCl) electrode
as the reference electrode and Pt wire as the counter electrode.
Experiment Details
For Sn deposition on GO, 10 mM solution of SnSO 4 .2H 2 O in deionized water was
prepared with pH value set at 2.0 using dilute H 2 SO 4 . For Co deposition on GO, the
electrolyte for contained 10 mM CoSO 4 .7H 2 O and 1 M Na 2 SO 4 in deionized water
at pH 2.5 adjusted using dilute H2SO 4 . CV runs were performed at 50 mV s
−1 for
both the electrolyte systems. The CA runs were performed for similar overpotentials
for deposition for both the metals. The curve fitting for was performed using Origin
9.0 software.
Results and Discussion
Cyclic Voltammetry
The CV curves for Sn and Co deposition on GO substrate are present in Fig. 1. The Sn
CV curve commenced at 0.0 V (henceforth mentioned with respect to Ag/AgCl (1 M
KCl) electrode) in the negative direction till −1.1 V. This part of CV is henceforth
referred as forward sweep. At −1.1 V the direction of potential sweep got switched
