the same parameters, different heating and cooling rates were applied to the chosen
composites during both conventional sintering (CS) and microwave (MW) sintering
due to intrinsic differences in their operating mechanisms.
Microstructural Evaluation
An analysis of scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation of the microstructure of the composite materials developed by the addition of alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) particulate reinforcements to a ZrO 2 matrix through both conventional sintering (CS) and
microwave (MW) sintering was carried out. The alumina grains (dark gray grains)
were distributed homogeneously and confined to be well within the zirconia grains
(small white grains) in the matrix. This is shown in Fig. 3d.
