5 Compositionally Modulated and Multilayered Deposits
Fig. 5.15 Magnetoresistance of Co–Cu/Cu multilayers with different magnetoresistance contributions. Top: nearly equal FM and SPM contributions, bottom: large FM and small SPM contribution.
Measured data are displayed with the black symbols. The red curves denote the SPM contribution in
accord with the Langevin function and are shifted along the ordinate so that they follow the measured
data at high magnetic fields. The green curves show the FM contribution that were obtained and a
difference between the measured data and the calculated SPM contribution. Reprinted from [180].

SPM particles a slow saturation with the external magnetic field. This is a persistent
problem for many electrodeposited multilayers.
It was first demonstrated for electrodeposited multilayers [153] that the magnetoresistance can be decomposed into a ferromagnetic and a superparamagnetic
contribution:
MR(H ) = MR FM (H ) + GMR SPM L(μH /k T )
