Scaling up this phenomenon to an industrial system would represent a
step-change solution to the design and operation of many solid processes from
drying to coating and multiphase reactors. The operation under a structured flow
would allow more precision in process design and control, reducing drastically the
costs associated with units such as dryers and coaters, widely used in food, energy
and pharmaceutical industry. Moreover, it would enable one to intensify many
operations and limit their capital requirement and energy consumption, which will
reduce the footprint of energy and manufacturing processes.
