1. Smart grid—This is basically an energy-conserving measure that prevents
wastage and improves efficiency by tracking electricity distribution and use in
real time. With two-way digital communications between power plants and users,
smart grids can balance supply and demand in real time and make consumers
active participants in the production and consumption of electricity. As the share
of generation from variable renewable resources such as wind and solar increases,
a smart grid can easily handle fluctuations. This innovative and automated system
can change the way electricity is distributed and consumed through the use of
smart meters, smart appliances, and renewable energy. For India, this will be key
to success of such initiatives and 24 × 7 power supply to all citizens, developing
