11 RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICY IN VIETNAM
265
• Gradually reduce reliance on fossil fuels, diversify the energy mix,
increase national energy security, and protect the environment while
ensuring sustainable development.
More specifically, the Energy Policy of Vietnam in terms of renewable energy focuses on achieving the progressive expansion of renewable
energy in the national energy mix:
• The share of renewable energy should be 38% of total electricity
generation in 2020, 32% in 2030, and 43% in 2050, 4 (Table 11.2);
and
• The shares of renewable energy sources (excluding storage, medium
and large hydropower) in electricity generation should increase to 7%
by 2020, and 10% by 2030 5 (Table 11.3) (Tables 11.6 and 11.7).
