Chemically Modified Carbon Nanotubes
8.2.4.1 Doping with Boron and Nitrogen
Since the discovery of carbon nanotubes, there has been immense interest in substituting carbon with other elements. Accordingly, boron–carbon (BaC), boron–
carbon–nitrogen (BaCaN) and carbon–nitrogen (CaN) nanotubes have been prepared and characterized. Boron-substitution in the carbon nanotubes gives rise to
p-type doping and nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes correspond to n-type doping.
Novel electron transport properties are expected of such doped nanotubes [110].
