A series of ternary sulfides were prepared by hydrothermal methods. CdInS 2
nanorods (20–25 nm  400–450 nm) were prepared by reacting CdS nanorods
with InCl 3 and thiourea [23]. Other hydrothermally prepared ternary sulfide nanocrystallites include MInS 2 (M ¼ Cu [24], Ag [25]), CuGaS 2 [26], AgGaS 2 (6–12
nm), a-Ag 9 GaS 6 [27], Ag 3 CuS 2 [28], PbSnS 3 [29], and CuFeS 2 [30].
Recently, InP nanocrystals were synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of
InCl 3 Á4H 2 O and white phosphorus in aqueous ammonia with 0.01 mol L
À1 potassium stearate at 170
C [31]. The XRD pattern can be indexed as the cubic phase.
The secondary particles, 180 nm in size, consisting of fine InP nanocrystals, 15 nm
in size, were found from the TEM images (Figure 7.5(a)). Alternatively, using 1,2dimethoxyethane instead of water as the reaction medium, nanocrystalline InP 10
nm in size was synthesized through the solvothermal reaction of anhydrous InCl 3
and Na 3 P at 150
C [32]. The TEM image is shown in Figure 7.5(b). Obviously, the
solvothermal method resulted in better particle morphology. In fact, solvothermal
