12.1 Introduction
Although the energy industry is predominantly thought to refer to the
electrical power sector (i.e. sources of electricity, electricity generation,
distribution, etc.), it is an all-encompassing term that comprises different
other industries, including the extractives sectors, being the mining and
minerals sectors. Oil and gas resources, for example, are components of
