3.1 Introduction
At the heart of the global response to the climate change threat is the
energy transition, which is a term of art in the industry that refers to
the adaptation of energy systems to meet the challenges posed by carbon
emissions. Often, the energy transition is synonymous with a shift to
renewable energy. It is, however, now apparent that countries will need to
chart their own energy transition pathways depending on their peculiar
circumstances, resources and needs.
