1 Introduction
Photothermal therapy (PTT) shows great promise for treating tumors [1]. In PTT, the
injected photothermal agent converts photo-energy into thermal energy under light
excitation, leading to the thermal ablation of cancer cells [2]. Combined therapy,
like PTT with photodynamic therapy (PDT), could enhance therapeutic efficacy and
reduce the recurrence rates of tumors [2, 3]. Both of these two methods involve light
irradiation and the use of photosensitive drugs [2]. Therefore, there remains a strong
need for a single agent that could be used as both a PTT and PDT agent and that could
