Implementation of the Conceptual
Framework for Youth Adaption
in Climate Change on SIDS
3
Abstract
This chapter is divided into two sections.
Section 1 discusses the methodologies and
findings of applying participatory mapping to
assess the vulnerability of communities in
SIDS to the impact of climate change stressors and generate data on the climatic vulnerability. The GIS community climate map
evolving from the participatory mapping exercises is an essential asset in communicating
climate science risk and vulnerability to a
diverse range of audiences. The methodologies were applied in six districts across
SVG.  This chapter presents step-by-step
application of the participatory methods and
analysis of the impact of climate change
stressors on communities to assess their vulnerability. Section 2 utilises thematic analytical tools to analyse data from bottom-up FGD
with youth and top-down interviews with policymakers and senior officials. The data presented central themes with sub-themes on the
perceptions and experiences of policymakers
and youth adapting to climate change in
SIDS. It utilises NVivo 11 to aid the selection
and analysis of appropriate quotes relating to
each of the theme and sub- theme. It concludes
by presenting a set of recommendations on
change enablers/drivers, including those that
lead to (1) youth empowerment and (2)
adaptation.

This chapter is divided into two sections. Section
1 discusses the methodology of applying and
utilising participatory mapping exercises to
assess the vulnerability of communities in SIDS
to the impact of climate change stressors and
generate data on the climatic vulnerability.
Through a series of participatory mapping exercises, geographic information system (GIS)
maps were generated. Although the section presents an analysis of the impact of climate change
on communities across SVG, the exercise can be
applied to any SIDS.  Section 2 deals with the
processes of utilising thematic analytical tools to
analyse data from FGDs with youth and interviews with policymakers and senior governmental officials.
