high-power load is hardly available. Therefore, appropriate extrapolation is necessary based on fundamental understanding of physics and chemistry of PMI obtained
in the present apparatus.
This book aims to understand and control PMI in a reactor. However, power loads
to PFS in today’s tokamaks are far less than those in the reactor. Furthermore, the
effects of neutron damage of PFM on PMI are difficult to predict. Therefore, most
of the book describes fundamental physics and chemistry related to PMI in current
tokamaks, which hopefully will help the readers to foresee or predict PMI in a reactor.
