4 Nonlinear Optics with Zero-Index Metamaterials
4.26 are schematics graphs and have not been plotted from data. Their purpose is to
illustrate the variation in the shown quantities. To take a look at the actual graphs,
the reader is advised to see Ref. [100]. In light of the above, ITO proves itself to
be a potential candidate for on-chip nonlinear applications. However, ITO is not
the only one of its kind. Aluminum zinc oxide (AZO) is another lucrative material
of the same category and is a subject of investigation nowadays [228, 229]. Very
recently, Carnemolla et al. [228, 229] have reported the spectral shift of twice the
bandwidth in the refracted beam, on illumination an AZO thin film by its epsilonnear-zero wavelength [228]. In conclusion, TCOs hold the capability to revolutionize
nonlinear photonics in the near future.
