because their luminescence originates in the oxide/polymer interface the variability
of emission colors is limited. Therefore, an additional design of luminescent
nanocomposites consisting of a ceramic core, a layer of an organic lumophore,
and a polymer coating at the outside was developed. The design of these composites
is shown schematically in Figure 9.42.

The ceramic core may be selected according to
the desired properties, to add physical
properties (besides luminescence) to the
particle. The polymer coating at the outer
