About the Authors
Dazhong Lao was born in 1957, he is an associate professor of Beijing Institute of
Technology, a distinguished professor and academic leader of Energy and Power
Engineering Speciality, Yinchuan University of Energy. He received his Bachelor’s
degree at the Dalian Institute of Technology in 1982, received his Master’s degree
at Dalian University of Technology in 1991 and Doctor’s Degree at Dalian
University of Technology in 1995. He was post-doctoral fellow at Tsinghua
University from 1995 to 1997.
His interested areas include rubber product development, chemical engineering
machinery, fluid machinery, energy and power engineering, combustion flow theory and test technology of rocket motor, general design, numerical calculation and
performance simulation technology of rocket motor, theory, design and experimental technology of propulsion system, applied mathematics and so on.
He has published over a hundred papers, hosted two National Natural Science
Fund Projects and participated in a number of scientific projects, won the third
grade prize of science and technology progress at the provincial and ministerial
levels for three times, supervised 29 graduates. His book is the Fundamentals of the
Calculus of Variations, the book won the first prize of the 12th Excellent Teaching
Materials of Beijing Institute of Technology in 2017.
Shanshan Zhao is a senior engineer of Dandong Chemical Fiber Company,
Liaoning Province. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Machinery at
the Dalian Institute of Technology in 1982. She gained industrial experience at
Equipment Installation Team of Dandong Chemical Fiber Company in 1982.
Her main areas of research are in the chemical fiber machinery, pressure vessel,
fluid machinery and applied mathematics. She is the coauthor of the book, and she
has published papers on calculus of variations.
She was director of Equipment Department of Design Institute of Dandong
Chemical Fiber Company from Aug. 1994 to Feb. 2013. She was pointed assessor
