Design and Analysis of the Human Airbag
135
4 The Results of the Analysis
According to the fall experiment of [12], the falling process of the human body from a
height of 0.4 m under the action of g = 9.8 m/s 2 of the gravitational acceleration, with
the airbag (Fig. 3) and without the airbag (Fig. 4) are both simulated. The human body
mass is applied to the femur as an additional mass. The friction coefficient between the
femur and the ground is 0.3, which is set as a rigid plane. The internal pressure is set
as 0.2 Mpa according to the standard of the common automobile airbags. The material
parameters are shown in Table 1, and the number of units and nodes of components in
the model is shown in Table 2.
Fig. 3. Finite element model of falling with the airbag
Fig. 4. Finite element model of falling without airbag
The stress cloud diagrams of the femur at the time of impact are shown in Fig. 5 and
Fig. 6. It can be seen that the stress of femur is greatly reduced with protection of the
airbag compared with that without the airbag. Also, the stress concentration is markedly
decreased with the airbag.
