The role of the local Gauss laws for the evasion of the Goldstone theorem (i.e. the
spontaneous breaking of the global gauge group without massless Goldstone bosons)
is discussed in Appendix E, below.
The local Gauss laws are also at the basis of the topology of G being displayed
by the physical states and of the corresponding vacuum structure (see Appendix F,
below).
