8.2 Industrial Transformation – Journey from Industry 1.0
to Industry 4.0
The manufacturing scenario has taken a paradigm shift in the recent times owing
to globalization. Owing to the stakeholders’ pressure, the industry at present must
be agile and flexible [5]. Demand for high-precision products is on the rise due
to which the traditional manufacturing style has become obsolete. Integration of
advance manufacturing systems like sensory systems will help in achieving improved
product quality at a lower cost. Sensory systems integrated to mechanical and electronic components have been able to create a revolution in the manufacturing sector.
The following paragraphs discuss the evolution of manufacturing, i.e. the journey
from the first to the current industrial revolution. The evolution of welding as a
manufacturing process is also mentioned below.
8.2.1 Primitive Manufacturing and Industry 1.0 – the First
Industrial Revolution
Human brain is one of the many wonders in the world. It has the capacity to create
effective solutions to meet the daily needs. Dating back to the pre-industrialization
