14 Prospects and Challenges for Aerodynamics
Fig. 14.11 Prototype of the teaching wind tunnel EOLIA
and for ease of assembly. The collector is an assembly of four plates folded along a
frame which are used as stiffeners. The test section, with a square section of 30 cm
and 75 cm long, is made of four detachable panels, for the ease of instrumentation
and a speed of 0 to 25 m/s can be achieved in the test section. The wind tunnel has
an overall length of 3.5 m.
The safety features put in place are: protection grid at the fan exit, manual speed
control with at an automatic safe running velocity limit which cannot be exceeded,
isolated electrical circuit up to the required standards and emergency stop button.
Basic aerodynamic force measurements and visualisations by light sheet can be
carried out in the test section.
The EOLIA wind tunnel is a pedagogical tool for colleges and high school students and for presentations to the general public, 3AF is committed to provide all the
necessary drawing, advices and documentations, after-sales service and to contribute
to an overall dynamics between the schools concerned. By this approach, 3AF intervenes in a constructive way in the world of teaching and assumes one of its functions
as a scientific society of reference in the field of aeronautics and space.
