constant inside the wind tunnel. Downstream of the test section there is an adjustable
second throat, designed to minimise flow disturbances propagating upstream and
to provide highly accurate Mach number control during tunnel operation at Mach
numbers between 0.7 and 1.0.
The test section has a height of 2 m, a width of 2.4 m and length of 9 m. The
wind tunnel has a slotted transonic liners and a supersonic nozzle designed for the
tests at Mach number of 1.35. Based on the dimensions of the test section a typical
full-span aircraft model would have a wingspan of about 1.6 m, while half models,
which are mounted with their half fuselage from the ceiling of the test section, can
have a semi-span of about 1.3 m. Figure 4.18 shows a model of an Airbus A320
in the ETW wind tunnel test section. Optical access to the test section for various
cameras and light sources is provided through 90 special windows in all four walls.
The specifications of the wind tunnel are: Mach number from 0.15 to 1.35, total
temperature of 313–110 K, total pressure of 1.15–4.5 bar. The combination of the
